Sell your solar panels' surplus energy to us

Q: Paljonko aurinkosähkön myynnistä maksetaan?

Yleensä sähköyhtiöt maksavat aurinkosähkön pientuotannosta Nord Pool -sähköpörssin Suomen markkinahinnan (spot-hinta). Tästä hinnasta voidaan vähentää yhtiön oma välityspalkkio ja perusmaksu. Esimerkiksi meillä Hehkulla maksamme sähkön pientuotannosta spot-hinnan, josta vähennämme oman marginaalimme. Hyvitämme pientuotannon sähkölaskulla.

Q: Who can I sell my surplus energy to?

You can sell your surplus energy to any energy company that buys it. Many energy suppliers in Finland also buy surplus electricity from households' solar panels – including Hehku. Usually you'll need to have your regular energy contract in the same company that you want to sell your surplus energy to.

Q: Do I have to pay taxes on my surplus energy production?

In theory yes, but in practice no. Energy generation is a taxable income, but the energy generation by solar panels in households is small-scale. This way, it doesn't reach the minimum tax treshold.

Q: Do I need extra setup to sell my surplus energy to the grid?

Usually no. If your house has solar panels, they're usually installed in a way that you can sell your surplus energy to the electricity grid without extra work.

Q: Kannattaako aurinkosähkön myynti?

Yksiselitteistä vastausta ei ole. Yleensä aurinkopaneelien tuotanto käytetään kuitenkin ensisijaisesti oman kiinteistön kulutukseen ja vain ylijäämä myydään verkkoon. Mutta yleisellä tasolla voisi sanoa, että ylijäämäsähkön myynnin kannattavuus kohentyi vuonna 2022. Sähkön hinta nousi voimakkaasti vuonna 2022. Se teki ylimääräisen aurinkosähkön myynnistä aiempaa kannattavampaa. Vuonna 2023 sähkön hinta on taas tasaantunut ja palautunut hillitymmälle tasolle.

How much can I get for my solar energy?

For surplus solar energy, we pay the hourly rate of the Finnish market in the Nord Pool power exchange (so called spot price). You can track the prices hourly on Nord Pool's website.

We only deduct our commission of 0.20 c/kWh. That's it – no monthly fees or sign-up costs.

How do I sell my solar panels' surplus energy to the grid?

To sell you excess energy production to the electricity network, you need to consider two things:

your solar panels have to be connected to the network
you need a sales agreement with your energy retailer (the company that you buy your energy from)

The energy produced by the panels is measured hourly and you're compensated accordingly. Usually your energy company either reimburses the rate on your electricity bill or debits it to your bank account once a year.
