How does the installation process work?

  1. We create an initial plan for the installation. Our specialist will go through a preliminary layout plan for the panel placement and cable routes with you, as well as determine a suitable location for the inverter. The plan will be reviewed again on the morning of the installation, and changes can still be made. Contact our specialists for more information.
  2. Scheduling the installation date. We will agree on a suitable installation date with you. Usually, the installation is scheduled about three to six weeks ahead. The equipment will be delivered to your property a few days before installation.
  3. Mounting system installation on the roof. The installer will first attach brackets and rails on the roof, where the panels will later be installed.
  4. Installation of the solar panels. Once the rails are in place, the panels can be mounted on them.
  5. Inverter installation. The inverter converts the energy produced by the solar panels into alternating current, which can be used by electrical devices. The inverter can be installed indoors or outdoors, as long as the space meets the standard requirements. You and the installer can agree on the best location for the inverter.
  6. Cable routing according to your preferences. Cable routes can affect the appearance of your house, so they are always installed neatly and in accordance with regulations, based on your preferences.
  7. Testing and connection. Finally, the installer tests the operation of the solar power system. Once everything is ready, the panels will also be connected to the power grid.
  8. Startup guidance. Finally, the installer will instruct you on how to use the solar power system. Although there is not much to operate, because the solar energy system works automatically and does not require active maintenance. You will also receive access to a monitoring app that allows you to track your solar panel’s electricity production.

All of this happens in a single working day, so panel installation is not a long process. Now your roof is ready to produce clean renewable energy.

We take care of the grid connection for your solar panels

Solar panels are usually connected to the local power grid. An exception might be, for example, a cabin that is not connected to the grid at all. In that case, the panels will also not be connected to the grid.

When your solar panels sometimes produce more electricity than you can use at home, the surplus electricity can be sold back to the grid. For this, you need to have a production contract with us. The easiest way is to make this agreement with the electricity company where you already have your electricity contract with us.

The solar panel supplier is responsible for the grid connection of the solar panels. Additionally, a notification must be made to the local electricity network company. At Hehku, for example, we take care of the grid connection notification on your behalf and the installer connects the system to the grid during the installation.

So you do not have to do anything else regarding the connection, except ensure you have a production sales agreement with your electricity provider.

A 35 to 45 degree angle is the optimal installation angle for solar panels

In Finnish conditions, the best installation angle for solar panels is around 35 to 45 degrees.

If the panels are installed at a shallower angle, better production can be achieved in the summer. However, with a smaller tilt angle, more balanced production is achieved over a longer period, including spring and autumn.

Because electricity consumption is usually lower in midsummer, it is not worthwhile to optimize panels for the highest production in summer only. Solar panels should be installed at an angle of about 35 to 45 degrees so that they produce a good amount of electricity also in spring and autumn, when electricity consumption is higher.

This way, solar electricity consumption at home is maximized instead of selling large amounts of surplus electricity to the grid during the summer. Usually, the electricity produced by the panels is more cost-effective to use at home than to sell to the grid.

However, it is good to know that a flat roof does not prevent you from installing panels. Modern solar panels are efficient at capturing diffused light, so even with a flatter roof, good electricity production can be achieved.

Installing solar panels yourself? We do not recommend it

We do not recommend installing solar panels yourself unless you happen to be a certified solar panel installer. The reason is not that we want to maximize our profits, but because it is in your and your home’s best interest for safety and reliability.

First of all, this involves electrical work that comes with risks. Without proper training and licenses, the installation should not be done. For example, connecting the inverter is electrical work that cannot be legally done without appropriate certification.

Your insurance company may also have requirements regarding installation. In case of damage, your insurance might not cover anything if the solar panels were not installed by a certified professional.

We provide a long warranty on our solar panel installations. When you order a full panel system from Hehku, you will receive a five-year installation warranty as well as product-specific manufacturer warranties. These warranties may not be valid if the system is installed by the customer.

Finally, did you know that you can save on installation costs thanks to the household deduction? We include the labor cost portion in our quote. You can then apply for the deduction on your tax return. The deduction is 35 percent of the installation labor cost (with a 150 euro deductible), and the maximum deductible amount is 1,600 euros per year per person.
