What kind of an electricity contract is the best for students?

Students' finances are usually a bit tighter – affordability and price stability are therefore essential. Can the fixed energy price change during a fixed-term contract period?

Accepted Answer

No, with a fixed-price, fixed-term electricity contract, the electricity price does not change during the contract period. The price stays the same for the entire duration.

A fixed price is our promise not to change the agreed price during your contract term.

A fixed-term contract is binding for both parties, us and you. That means there will be no other changes to your contract during the term either!

We’ll contact you well in advance before your fixed-term contract ends, so you can freely choose the electricity contract you want next.

Question 4

What if I move during the contract validity term?

If you’re moving, we ask you to terminate your fixed-term electricity contract, even if the contract period is still ongoing.

In addition to setting up a new contract, terminating the old one is important to make sure you don’t end up with two contracts active at the same time. Electricity contracts are always tied to a specific address, so when you move, you’re free to choose a new contract from our full selection.

What happens when a fixed-term contract expires?

After the end of the term, your contract will continue as a “valid until further notice” type of contract. If you wish, you can change your contract with a 14-day notice period.

In case the terms of the contract change, we'll notify you a month in advance.

What’s the difference between electricity transfer and electricity sales?

Hehku is an electricity retailer and our bill concerns only electricity consumption. Your energy supplier (=energy company, energy retailer) charges you for the electricity you consume per kilowatt hour (kWh).

The local electricity transfer company charges for electricity transfer separately. Unlike your energy supplier, you cannot choose your transfer company. It depends on the location of your address.

What is a guarantee of origin for electricity?

A guarantee of origin for electricity is an electronic document by which an electricity supplier verifies the origin of the electricity it sells. If an electricity company sells renewable energy or nuclear power, it must acquire a corresponding amount of guarantees of origin for renewable energy or nuclear power.

What does green electricity mean?

Accepted Answer

Green electricity means energy produced using renewable methods. Such energy sources include, for example, wind power, hydropower, and solar power.

When an electricity company sells ‘green’ electricity to a consumer, it must acquire guarantees of origin that verify the renewable origin of the electricity.

Green electricity is not a protected trademark or a certification, meaning the electricity company itself is responsible for sourcing the renewable energy it sells.

However, the term ‘green electricity’ is somewhat ambiguous. That is why we offer either renewable EKOenergy or 100% fossil-free electricity as an optional add-on to every electricity contract. This way, there is no uncertainty about responsibility or the origin of the electricity.

How to save electricity in an apartment building?

In apartment buildings, the opportunities to save electricity are more limited. At home, heating usually accounts for the largest share of energy use, but in an apartment building you cannot influence heating in the same way as in a detached house.

In an apartment, the easiest way to reduce your own electricity bill is by lowering underfloor heating and using the sauna less, if such amenities are available in the apartment.

When using the oven, it’s worth cooking a larger batch of food at once to reduce how often it needs to be used. Likewise, the washing machine should only be run with full loads. Other savings come from small actions, such as using LED bulbs, switching off appliances left on standby, and reducing the use of electricity-hungry consumer electronics.

Of course, the same general tips that apply to detached houses also apply to apartment living: keep indoor temperatures moderate and save hot water. Even if these savings do not show directly on your electricity bill, they still reduce overall energy consumption.
